Rep. Ilhan Omar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th district, recently shared updates on her activities and engagements via social media. Her posts highlight her visits to local organizations and efforts to support community initiatives.

On February 22, 2025, Rep. Omar visited the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery for their new exhibit titled “The Black Vote.” She noted that this exhibit explores the struggle of Black Americans in Minnesota to secure their voting rights. “I stopped by the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery to visit their new exhibit for Black History Month, ‘The Black Vote.’ This incredible exhibit explores Black Americans’ fight for their hard-earned right to vote in Minnesota.”

In another post from the same day, she mentioned a meeting with Matthew Ayres, Director of Joyce Uptown Food Shelf. The discussion focused on federal support as they anticipate increased food distribution demands in 2025. Joyce Uptown is recognized as Minneapolis’s oldest food shelf. “I sat down with Joyce Uptown Food Shelf Director Matthew Ayres to discuss how I can best support them at the federal level as they anticipate increased demands for food distribution in 2025.”

Additionally, Rep. Omar met with leaders at Tubman Chrysalis Center, an organization providing shelter, legal services, and counseling. She expressed her commitment to supporting their mission at the federal level.“Tubman Chrysalis Center is an amazing organization that provides services like shelter, legal services, and counseling to those in our community who need help most.”
