Rep. Ilhan Omar, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th district, recently shared her thoughts and actions on social media regarding significant events and decisions. Omar, who has been serving in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Keith Ellison, was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and is known for her active engagement on various political issues.

On December 11, 2024, Rep. Omar commented on the fall of the Assad regime in Syria. Reflecting on her own experiences as a child fleeing war, she stated: “The fall of the Assad regime is a moment of hope for Syrians who have endured unimaginable oppression… The Syrian people now have a chance to build a brighter future.”

Later that day, Omar announced her decision regarding the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). She tweeted: “Rep. Omar voted NO on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA): https://t.co/eRNBA1O8Vl” This statement highlights her stance against the legislation.

On December 13, 2024, Rep. Omar expressed pride in securing funding for community development projects. She wrote: “Proud my office was able to secure $3 million for the American Indian Center in South Minneapolis!… The project funding helped to renovate and expand the MAIC facility…” This funding aims to enhance health and wellness programs at the center.
