Representative Ilhan Omar, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th district since 2019, shared updates on her recent engagements via social media.
On January 29, 2025, Omar tweeted about a meeting with Laurel Igbanugo from the Minnesota African Women Coalition to discuss resource accessibility for African immigrant families in the Twin Cities. She stated: “I met with Omites Project President Laurel Igbanugo, from the Minnesota African Women Coalition, this afternoon to discuss how we can ensure they can access the necessary resources to provide African immigrant families in the twin cities with the help they need.”
Later that day, Omar posted about her discussion with Unidos MN regarding immigration rights. On January 29, she tweeted: “I sat down with @UnidosMN to talk about our work ahead to protect our immigrant neighbors. In this moment, it is so clear that we need to build a strong and sustainable movement that respects civil rights and provides meaningful pathways to stable status.”
Additionally, on January 29, Omar joined Minnesota State Representatives Cedrick Frazier and Mike Freiberg for a tour of NEAR Food Shelf in Crystal. She noted: “I had the pleasure of joining MN State Reps. @CedrickFrazier and Mike Freiberg for a tour of the NEAR Food Shelf in Crystal. NEAR is an incredible community nonprofit that provides emergency food to individuals and their families throughout our community.”
