Representative Ilhan Omar, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019, shared her thoughts on various political issues through a series of tweets in early February 2025. Omar, a graduate of North Dakota State University and a resident of Minneapolis, has been vocal about the impact of federal policies on local communities.

On February 1, 2025, Rep. Ilhan Omar hosted community leaders and state and local officials in Minneapolis to discuss the consequences of the Trump Administration’s federal funding freeze on Minnesotans. She stated: “I hosted community leaders and state and local officials in Minneapolis to emphasize the devastating impact of the Trump Administration’s federal funding freeze on Minnesotans.”

On February 3, 2025, Omar questioned former President Donald Trump’s rationale regarding his stance on federal funding for essential programs. She tweeted: “Donald Trump likes to say that ‘he has common sense and unfortunately a lot of people don’t.’ But where’s the common sense in stopping funding for programs that help families find their next meal or access health care? Common sense is fighting for policies that uplift…”

Later that day, she addressed concerns about billionaire Elon Musk’s influence over international aid programs. In her tweet, she remarked: “Elon Musk does not have the power to dismantle USAID. The idea that a billionaire can wake up one day and decide to end life-saving international aid programs is undemocratic and outright dangerous.”
