Rep. Ilhan Omar, a current U.S. Congress member representing Minnesota’s 5th district, shared her views on various topics through a series of tweets recently. Known for her vocal stance on national and social issues, Omar’s recent statements continue to reflect her advocacy for marginalized communities.

On June 5, 2025, Rep. Omar criticized the travel ban imposed by former President Donald Trump. She stated that “Trump’s racist travel ban won’t make us safer, it will separate families and endanger lives.” She emphasized that individuals from the banned nationalities have contributed significantly to American society.

The following day, June 6, 2025, she expressed concern over actions taken by Secretary McMahon regarding education rights for children with disabilities. Omar tweeted that “Secretary McMahon fired the lawyers who enforce the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, gutted the Office of Civil Rights…” She questioned how children with disabilities would receive necessary support under such leadership.

In a more celebratory tone on June 6, 2025, Omar extended greetings for Eid al-Fitr. She wished “Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating!” and hoped for renewed hope and strength in communities both in Minnesota and globally.

Ilhan Omar has been serving in Congress since replacing Keith Ellison in 2019 after previously serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and currently residing in Minneapolis, she holds a BA from North Dakota State University.
