Rep. Ilhan Omar, a U.S. Congress member representing Minnesota’s 5th district, recently shared her thoughts on several pressing issues via social media. Omar, who has been serving in Congress since 2019 after replacing Keith Ellison, addressed topics ranging from a recent plane crash to local governance and national security concerns.

On January 30, 2025, Rep. Omar expressed her condolences regarding a tragic incident near Washington D.C.’s airport: “Heartbroken over the news of the plane crash near DCA. I’m thinking of the victims’ families and loved ones. I’m grateful to our heroic first responders for their work navigating this unthinkable tragedy.”

Later that day, she highlighted her commitment to community collaboration by discussing a meeting with New Hope’s new mayor: “Yesterday I met with New Hope’s newly-elected Mayor John Elder to discuss ways we can work together to make New Hope an even better place to live and work.”

In another post on January 30, Rep. Omar voiced her strong stance against Guantanamo Bay: “Guantanamo has been a moral stain on our country for over two decades. This monument to cruelty should be closed forever, not used as a prison camp. Utterly despicable.”
