Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019, shared several updates via her Twitter account on May 16, 2025. Omar replaced Keith Ellison in Congress and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019.

In a tweet posted at 22:30 UTC, Rep. Omar expressed her honor for Sue Abderholden’s contributions to mental health advocacy over the past 24 years with NAMI Minnesota. She recognized Abderholden’s work on the House Floor.

At nearly the same time, she made another statement calling for a ban on congressional stock trading, asserting that “public service should never be about private profit.”

Later, at 22:30:19 UTC, Rep. Omar addressed worker safety issues through a tweet. She criticized GOP efforts and actions by the Trump administration and DOGE that she believes undermine worker safety agencies. Omar stated her commitment to fully funding these agencies and supporting legislation aimed at protecting American workers.
