Rep. Ilhan Omar, a current U.S. Congress member representing Minnesota’s 5th district, has been vocal about various issues on her social media platform. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, she now resides in Minneapolis and holds a BA from North Dakota State University. Her recent posts reflect her ongoing engagement with policy matters and advocacy for marginalized communities.

On May 13, 2025, Rep. Omar expressed her criticism of the Republican Party’s priorities by stating that it is “clear that the GOP is out of touch with their constituents and governing for the few at the expense of the many.” She criticized Republicans for “cutting Medicaid to prioritize tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy over healthcare for low-income Americans,” labeling these actions as “shameful” (source).

In another post dated May 14, 2025, Rep. Omar highlighted her legislative efforts by mentioning her introduction of the Brittany Clardy Act during the last Congress session. This act aims to establish a federal office dedicated to addressing cases of missing and murdered Black women and girls. She emphasized that while Minnesota has set an example, there is a need for national action when Black women go missing (source).

Later on May 14, Rep. Omar paid tribute to Sue Abderholden’s long-standing service as Executive Director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness Minnesota. She acknowledged Abderholden’s contributions over 24 years in reshaping sectors such as education, health care, housing, and criminal justice to better support Minnesotans living with mental illnesses (source).

Omar replaced Keith Ellison in Congress in 2019 after serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019.
