Representative Michelle Fischbach of Minnesota said that the recent Supreme Court ruling protects taxpayers from funding activities that conflict with their values and represents a pro-life victory. This statement was made on X.

“Taxpayers should not have to worry that their tax dollars are being spent in ways that go against their values,” said Fischbach. “Period. I’m so glad SCOTUS made the right decision. This is a win for life.”

In June 2025, the Supreme Court’s decision in Murray v. South Carolina allowed states to block Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood for non-abortion services. According to AP News, the 6–3 ruling limits patients’ ability to sue under Medicaid’s provider-choice provision and broadens states’ authority over taxpayer-supported health funding and abortion policy.

The National Review and Planned Parenthood’s reports indicate that taxpayers fund about 24% of abortion costs in the U.S., with federal support restricted by the Hyde Amendment and most public funding coming from state programs. Planned Parenthood received approximately $800 million in government funds and performed over 392,700 abortions in 2023–24.

A Marist/Knights of Columbus poll found that 73% of Americans oppose using taxpayer funds for abortions abroad, and 60% believe religious providers should not be required to cover abortion. This suggests that public resistance to funding services contrary to personal or religious values remains strong.

According to her official House biography, Fischbach is a Republican U.S. Representative from Minnesota’s 7th District and a former lieutenant governor. Her legislative record includes longstanding support for the Hyde Amendment, co-sponsoring bills to defund Planned Parenthood, and advancing taxpayer protections against abortion funding.
