Representative Michelle Fischbach of Minnesota has advocated for comprehensive legislation to address taxes, agriculture, and border policy. Her statement was made on the social media platform X.

“We need to secure the border,” said Fischbach. “We need to deliver tax relief to families, small businesses, and seniors. We need Death Tax exemptions for our family farms. We need One Big Beautiful Bill.”

In May 2025, House Republicans passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a significant legislative proposal that combines tax reform, border security, and changes to estate taxes. According to PBS NewsHour, the bill aims to make the 2017 tax cuts permanent, eliminate federal tax on tips and overtime, and allocate $46.5 billion for border security measures, including wall construction and expanded deportations. The package also includes substantial cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), raising concerns about its potential social impact.

As of 2025, the federal estate tax exemption stands at $13.99 million per person or $27.98 million for married couples, with a top rate of 40%. The American Farm Bureau Federation reports that this exemption is set to be halved on January 1, 2026, dropping to approximately $7.61 million unless Congress intervenes. This change could significantly affect family farms in Minnesota by potentially forcing the sale of land or assets to cover estate taxes.

Recent House legislation such as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” provides targeted tax relief for small businesses and seniors. Barron’s reports that the bill proposes removing federal income tax on tips and overtime while adding a $4,000 deduction for seniors over 65 earning less than $75,000. While these provisions offer relief, they are counterbalanced by reductions in safety-net programs like Medicaid and SNAP, prompting debate over economic equity.

According to her official biography, Representative Fischbach has served Minnesota’s 7th District since 2021 and was previously Lieutenant Governor as well as a longtime state legislator. A Republican member of both the House Ways and Means Committee and the Rules Committee, she focuses on agriculture, trade, and pro-life issues. Her record reflects a strong conservative stance on social and fiscal policy.
