Ramsey County announced on April 24 that it is recognizing the efforts of its volunteers during National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 19 to April 25.
The county said volunteers are essential in delivering resident-focused services and supporting a wide range of programs. The announcement comes as communities across the country celebrate the contributions of volunteers.
According to Ramsey County, volunteer election workers play a key role in keeping polling places open and ensuring fair elections. Other volunteer roles include University of Minnesota Extension garden educators who teach residents about gardening, Environmental Health volunteers who assist with Fix-It Clinics and yard waste sites, and advisory board members who help shape policy for the county.
Volunteers also participate in maintaining parks during Earth Day events, support library services, serve as crisis counselors or clerical aides for Social Services or Financial Assistance Services, mentor veterans through court programs, and provide office assistance. At Tamarack Nature Center, volunteers help care for animals, run winter activities, restore habitats, and more. Community Corrections volunteers partner with UMN-Extension gardeners each year to host one of the largest plant sales in Ramsey County.
“Ramsey County truly wouldn’t be able to provide all the excellent, resident-first service we provide without the service of community volunteers. Thank you, volunteers, for all you do!” said officials in their statement.
Residents interested in volunteering are encouraged by Ramsey County to explore opportunities available within their community.
