Senior Owen Rexing led the St. Thomas men’s golf team on May 3 by shooting a three-under-par 68 in the opening round of the Summit League Championship at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. His performance earned him a share of the individual lead after day one.

The St. Thomas team finished with a total score of five-over-par 289, tying for fifth place alongside South Dakota State and Omaha. The Tommies are five strokes behind tournament leader South Dakota, which posted an even-par round and holds a two-shot advantage over North Dakota State.

Rexing started his round strong with three birdies in his first six holes but faced setbacks with bogeys on holes seven and eight. He regained momentum with additional birdies on holes ten, thirteen, and eighteen while playing the final seven holes without any bogeys. Rexing’s six birdies tied for most in the field, matching teammate Mason Roloff.

Other notable performances for St. Thomas included Zach Rouleau’s two-over 73 to tie for twentieth place, while Gavin Newkirk and Tyler McNeive each shot three-over 74 to tie for twenty-fourth place. Roloff finished at four-over 75 despite recording six birdies but was affected by multiple bogeys and double bogeys.

St. Thomas led all teams with eighteen total birdies during the opening round of play.
