The Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners announced on May 4 that May 3-9, 2026, will be recognized as National Small Business Week in the county. The week is dedicated to celebrating and supporting small businesses that contribute significantly to the local economy.

The recognition highlights the role of over 1,800 business establishments in Otter Tail County, which together contribute more than $3.28 billion to the local economy. These businesses provide essential jobs and services, with about 30% of the county’s workforce—approximately 31,000 workers—employed by small businesses.

“We are proud to honor the hard work and dedication of small businesses in Otter Tail County during National Small Business Week,” said Otter Tail County Commissioner Sean Sullivan. “Their ability to adapt and support families with essential jobs, products, and services is what makes Otter Tail County such a vibrant place to live, work, and play.”

County officials say their business development efforts are focused on helping small businesses start up and grow by connecting them with programs and resources suited to their needs. The county collaborates with organizations such as the West Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center, West Central Initiative, Chambers of Commerce, cities within the county, and other partners.

Residents are encouraged by officials to support local businesses not only during National Small Business Week but throughout the year. More information about available business development resources can be found at ottertailcounty.gov/business-development.
