The Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners declared on May 1 that May 8 will be recognized as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day, honoring the work of licensed caregivers who serve families throughout the county.

This proclamation recognizes the efforts of 125 licensed family child care providers, child care center teachers, and early childhood caregivers who collectively support more than 1,300 children and their families in Otter Tail County. The board highlighted that these providers offer safe and supportive environments where children can grow and learn. In addition to caregiving, they also act as teachers, mentors, and trusted adults for young children.

Child care providers are considered essential to the local economy by enabling parents and guardians to participate in the workforce. Their role supports both local businesses and the broader workforce in Otter Tail County.

“As a grandpa, I know firsthand how much it means to have someone you trust caring for the little kids in your life,” said Otter Tail County Commissioner Dan Bucholz. “These providers show up every single day with patience and dedication, and I don’t think we can thank them enough for what they do.”

Residents are encouraged on May 8 to thank child care providers and early childhood caregivers for their dedication. Simple gestures such as a kind word or note are suggested ways to acknowledge their contributions. Additional information about child care resources is available at ottertailcounty.gov/childcare or by calling 218-998-8150.
