NFIB Minnesota State Director Jon Boesche expressed concerns following Governor Tim Walz’s recent State of the State Address. In a statement, Boesche criticized the governor for omitting the challenges faced by small businesses in Minnesota.

“Governor Walz’s State of the State speech failed to acknowledge the reality that small businesses statewide are currently facing,” Boesche said. He noted that instead of addressing ways to improve the business climate in Minnesota, the governor focused much of his speech on criticizing the federal government. Boesche added, “Instead of proposing relief from burdensome mandates and excessive taxes, he doubled down on his support for the policies that are hindering Main Street from growing and investing in our communities.”

Boesche emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses for the state’s economic growth, suggesting, “If Governor Walz truly wants a stronger Minnesota, he must prioritize the needs of small businesses, which are the backbone of our communities.”

The statement follows a recent report by the American Legislative Exchange Council ranking Minnesota 41st in the nation in its economic outlook, placing it in the bottom ten states.
