The National Advertising Division (NAD) reviewed the use of dosage claims on dietary supplement labels, according to an April 27 announcement. The decision was made in Case No. 7522, Reus Research LLC v. Iron Rock Ventures LLC.

This review is important for the dietary supplement industry because companies often use large numbers on packaging to indicate potency and value to consumers.

According to the NAD’s findings, if a product label features a prominent number suggesting dosage or strength, that claim must be properly supported by evidence. The NAD also found that placing clarifying information only in fine print or within the Supplement Facts Panel does not correct a misleading front-label claim.

The case highlights how advertising practices in this sector are being closely examined for accuracy and transparency.

Industry observers may expect increased scrutiny of similar labeling practices as regulatory bodies continue to address potential consumer confusion.
