The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Minnesota’s Severe Weather Awareness Week will take place from April 7 to April 11, 2025. As part of the week’s activities, a Statewide Tornado Drill Day is scheduled for Thursday, April 10.
On this day, outdoor warning sirens will be activated at 1:45 PM and again at 6:45 PM to simulate a tornado warning. According to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management, these drills are designed so that community members can practice their emergency plans in case of a tornado. The first drill targets institutions and businesses, while the evening drill is meant for second shift workers and families. The office also noted that there is no “all-clear” siren after the drills.
Residents seeking more information about severe weather safety can visit the Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management website (https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/hsem/weather-awareness-preparedness/Pages/severe-weather-awareness-week-program.aspx), which provides daily topics during Severe Weather Awareness Week. Each day covers a different aspect of seasonal weather safety: Monday focuses on alerts and warnings; Tuesday addresses severe weather, lightning, and hail; Wednesday discusses floods; Thursday highlights tornadoes with statewide drills; and Friday covers extreme heat.
“We encourage everyone to be informed and prepared!” stated the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management.
