Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019, recently shared insights from her activities and engagements on social media. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and currently residing in Minneapolis, Omar is known for her active participation in community events and legislative efforts.
On March 22, 2025, Rep. Omar expressed her honor at joining local leaders for a significant community event. She stated: “I’m honored to join St. Louis Park Mayor Nadia Mohammed and Golden Valley Mayor Roslyn Harmon for their first Annual Iftar Dinner! It was truly special to break bread with the community as we connected with one another in reflection and celebration.”
Later that day, she detailed her recent district work week via social media. Omar highlighted various initiatives undertaken between March 17–21, stating: “This district work week was packed, from fighting food insecurity to defending Medicaid and standing up to Trump’s attacks on our communities.” She also used the hashtag #FightingForThe5th to encapsulate her efforts.
Further expanding on her week’s activities, Rep. Omar mentioned hosting town halls aimed at engaging with constituents. On March 22, she noted: “-Hosted two town halls—a tele-town hall with 17,000 Minnesotans and an in-person one with over 500 community members at Washburn High School in Minneapolis.”
