Representative Ilhan Omar, who has been serving as the U.S. Congress member for Minnesota’s 5th district since 2019, shared recent community engagement efforts via social media. Omar, originally from Mogadishu, Somalia and currently residing in Minneapolis, has a history in state and federal legislative positions, having served in the Minnesota House of Representatives before her congressional role.

On April 21, 2025, Omar emphasized the community initiatives undertaken by the Nonviolent Peaceforce’s Hub for Nonviolence and Safety located in North Minneapolis. She shared her experience from attending a community coffee event. “Nonviolent Peaceforce’s Hub for Nonviolence and Safety in North Minneapolis does incredible work to strengthen our communities through conflict de-escalation and peace building. I was grateful to join their Community Coffee this morning to hear from their team about how we can”.

Later the same day, she announced her April town hall meeting scheduled for 7 PM in North Minneapolis, inviting constituents to register through a provided link.
