Later on August 26, Omar addressed actions by former President Donald Trump concerning the Federal Reserve: “When Trump tries to fire Fed officials like Lisa Cook, it’s your 401(k), mortgage, and savings on the line. He is trying to hijack an independent institution that stabilizes our economy to serve his own political interests *once again.*”
Omar has served as the representative for Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019 after succeeding Keith Ellison. Before joining Congress, she was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, Omar resides in Minneapolis and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Dakota State University.
