Rep. Ilhan Omar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th district, has been vocal about various issues through her recent social media posts. Her tweets reflect her stance on significant national matters, including immigration policies and workforce safety.

On June 6, 2025, Rep. Omar expressed her opposition to former President Trump’s travel ban, describing it as “racist.” She highlighted concerns that the ban would result in families being separated and lives being endangered.

In another post on the same day, Rep. Omar addressed a decision made by Department of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer during an Education and Workforce Committee Hearing. She criticized the reduction of OSHA’s inspector workforce amidst existing understaffing concerns, warning that this move could jeopardize worker safety.

The following day, June 7, 2025, she shared a summary of her activities during a District Work Week in Minnesota’s 5th district. The recap included hosting a town hall meeting, engaging with small business owners, and advocating for SNAP funding protection. She reiterated her commitment to co-governance and justice.

Rep. Ilhan Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and moved to Minneapolis where she currently resides. Having served since replacing Keith Ellison in 2019 after graduating from North Dakota State University with a BA in 2011, she continues to represent Minnesota’s interests at the federal level.
