Rep. Ilhan Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed several national issues through her official Twitter account, including Supreme Court decisions affecting LGBTQ+ youth, postal worker safety, and federal budget priorities.

On April 1, 2026, Omar criticized a recent Supreme Court decision related to “conversion therapy,” stating “This Supreme Court decision puts our kids in danger. ‘Conversion therapy’ is abuse—it’s an unsafe, discredited practice that inflicts lasting trauma on LGBTQ+ youth. We need to ban this reprehensible practice nationwide.”

Addressing labor conditions for postal workers on April 2, 2026, Omar wrote “A functional public mail system is indispensable to our communities, but it cannot come at the expense of our postal workers’ safety. I met with @Branch9NALC workers to discuss what needs to be done to ensure safe working conditions for our hardworking letter carriers.”

On April 3, 2026, she commented on national spending priorities: “It’s always yes to bombs, but no to our babies. This is what America last looks like.”

Omar has represented Minnesota’s 5th District in Congress since 2019 after previously serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. She succeeded Keith Ellison in Congress and resides in Minneapolis. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, she earned a BA from North Dakota State University in 2011.
