Rep. Ilhan Omar, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th district, has recently voiced concerns over immigration enforcement and congressional transparency in a series of posts on her official social media account.
On July 21, 2025, Omar stated, “No one should be deported to a war zone. This administration is quietly sending people to countries they’ve never known, in the middle of conflict, with no safety net and no accountability. We must abolish ICE.”
The following day, she commented on House proceedings regarding documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. On July 22, 2025, she posted, “Now Republicans are shutting down the House till September to block a vote that would force them to release the Epstein files. It’s shameful. Release the files.”
Later that same day, Omar addressed civil liberties and protest rights: “People across the country are facing consequences simply for standing up against a genocide and that should concern all of us. Earlier today, I spoke with Mahmoud Khalil, who was wrongfully detained under the Trump administration for exercising his constitutional rights.”
Omar has served in Congress since 2019 after previously holding office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. She was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and currently resides in Minneapolis. Omar earned her bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University in 2011.
