Representative Ilhan Omar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th district, has been vocal about various legislative and social issues on her Twitter account. Her tweets highlight efforts to repeal outdated laws, protect reproductive rights, and challenge recent political actions.

On January 23, 2025, Rep. Omar addressed the Alien Enemies Act as “a relic of a xenophobic past—a draconian law that empowers presidents to target immigrants without due process.” She expressed pride in re-introducing the Neighbors Not Enemies Act alongside her colleagues to repeal this law and ensure fair treatment for immigrants. “The Alien Enemies Act is a relic of a xenophobic past—a draconian law that empowers presidents to target immigrants without due process.”

Later that day, she commemorated the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade by asserting the importance of reproductive freedom as a fundamental right. She called on Congress to codify Roe into federal law, reflecting the majority opinion among Americans who support the right to choose. “Today marks 52 years since Roe v. Wade first recognized the fundamental right to reproductive freedom.”

In another tweet on January 23, Rep. Omar criticized actions taken during former President Donald Trump’s new term in office. She noted significant rollbacks on issues such as birthright citizenship and refugee resettlement while expressing concern over increased prescription drug prices and climate crisis acceleration. Omar emphasized that these developments are not normal and pledged that progressives will not remain passive.“We’re days into Trump’s new term and he’s rolled back decades of progress: attacking birthright citizenship, halting refugee resettlement, accelerating the climate crisis, and making prescription drugs more expensive.”
