As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Minnesota State Wire have submitted a request under the Minnesota Data Practices Act § 13.01 et seq. We are seeking detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.

Our request includes obtaining a list of all candidates’ first, middle, and last names. We have also asked for details about the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we have requested information about each candidate’s party affiliation.

To ensure that we can reach out to these candidates for comments or further information, we have also requested their contact details. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe that we qualify for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await the response from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office regarding this request.
