Otter Tail County is asking residents to review and comment on a draft Comprehensive Roadway Safety Action Plan before the May 12 deadline, according to an April 27 announcement.

The plan was created through the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program, which is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Its goal is to reduce and eventually eliminate serious injuries and deaths on county roads for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, public transit riders, and commercial vehicle operators.

Officials say that too many lives are lost or changed forever due to preventable traffic crashes. The new plan uses a data-driven approach informed by community input. It analyzes crash data, identifies high-risk areas in Otter Tail County, and proposes practical solutions such as infrastructure improvements, public education efforts, or enforcement measures.

Three documents are available for public review: an executive summary with key findings; the full Safety Action Plan report containing detailed analysis and recommendations; and appendices with supporting technical information. Residents can submit feedback online until the morning of Tuesday, May 12.

The draft Safety Action Plan will be presented for final approval at the Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 26.
