Chief Deputy Jon Huneke of the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office was named one of three honorees for the Red Wing Rotary Club’s Service Above Self award, according to an April 23 announcement.

The annual recognition is given to public servants who demonstrate a strong commitment to helping others, reflecting the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” The honor highlights individuals whose actions make a significant difference in their communities.

Sheriff Marty Kelly, who nominated Huneke for the award, said, “His dedication to his profession, his community, and the people he serves is exceptional. He leads by example, gives generously of his time, and makes a lasting impact on everyone around him. It is with great respect and appreciation that we recognize him with this well-deserved honor.”

Huneke began his law enforcement career in 1999 at the Goodhue County Jail and has since risen to Chief Deputy. Beyond his professional achievements, he actively volunteers through his church, the Goodhue Lions Club, and 4‑H programs supporting youth and local events.

The Red Wing Rotary’s Service Above Self luncheon took place on April 21. The event annually honors representatives from the City of Red Wing, Red Wing Public Schools, and Goodhue County. Award recipients receive a $200 donation to a cause they choose along with a plaque bearing their name for one year.

The recognition underscores ongoing efforts by local organizations to celebrate public service contributions within Goodhue County.
