Ag Growth International (AGI) announced on Apr. 16 that its Clay Center, Kansas facility has achieved three years without a lost-time injury. The company awarded the site its Safety Standout Award, recognizing what it described as an exceptional commitment to employee well-being and workplace safety across AGI’s global operations.
This milestone highlights the importance of workplace safety in industrial settings, where reducing injuries can impact both productivity and employee morale.
David Postill, Senior Vice President for North America at AGI, said, “This achievement is powered entirely by our people. Three years with no lost‑time injuries reflects a culture where employees look out for one another, speak up about risks and take personal responsibility for keeping themselves and their teammates safe.” A lost-time injury is defined as an incident resulting in an employee missing work—a key metric used to assess safety performance.
Postill also said, “At AGI, safety is not just driven by programs, policies and processes, but by the daily choices our people make. The Clay Center team has demonstrated what is possible when safety becomes a shared value and a source of pride.”
Mike Baker, Plant Manager at AGI Clay Center added: “This safety milestone is a tremendous accomplishment by our entire Clay Center team. Achieving three years with no lost-time injuries takes everyone working together, every day, with a shared commitment to making safety our number one priority.” Baker further stated: “While we’re proud of this achievement, we see it as just the beginning of our journey toward eliminating all accidents. Our goal is to make safety a way of life—not just at work, but for everyone who walks through our doors. Safety first, always.”
The facility was originally founded in 1958 as Hutchinson Manufacturing before being acquired by AGI in 2017; it now manufactures various grain handling equipment including augers and conveyors.
From April 27 to May 1 this year AGI will hold its sixth global Safety Week across all sites. The company noted that two other facilities—AGI Lenexa in Kansas and AGI Swift Current in Saskatchewan—have also reached three years without any lost time injuries so far this year.
